MYANMAR
(BURMA)
Myanmar
is the largest country in the Southeast Asia. It shares borders
with Bangladesh, India, China, Laos and Thailand. With a total land
area of 676, 577 sq. km., the country stretches over 2090 km from
north to south and over 925 km east to west. It has a 2832 km long
coastline on the Indian Ocean. Over 50 per cent of the total land
area is covered with forest.
CLIMATE
Generally, Myanmar has three seasons. The
monsoon or rainy season is from May to October, the cool dry season
from November to February, and the hot season from March to May.
During the rainy season, rainfall varies from 75 cm. In the central
dry zone to 500 cm, in the coastal region. Average temperature ranges
from 21°C in the northern highlands to 32°C in the central and lower
areas.

CLOTHING
Casual and light clothing is recommended all
year round. However, warmer clothing is advisable for visits to
northern Myanmar, Kachin and Shan States. When visiting religious
shrines and temples, modest dress is required and easily removable
footwear is highly recommended since all footwear and socks must
be removed in those sacred places.
RELIGION
More than 80 percent of the people are Buddhists.
The rest are Christians, Muslims, Hindus and animists.
LANGUAGE
The official language is Myanmar although
English is widely spoken and understood.
PASSPORT AND VISA
A valid passport with entry visa is required
of all visitors. A tourist visa allows a stay of 28 days, extendible
for an additional 14 days. A business visa allows a stay of 28 days,
extendible up to 12 months on case-by-case basis. Visa-on-arrival
may be granted upon prior arrangement with the Ministry of Hotels

arrangements.. Overland entry is permitted for neighboring national
tourists with a border pass. With a visa other nationals, third
party tourists, may enter at Tachileik, At Three Pagoda Pass, At
Myawaddy and Kawthaung checkpoints along the Myanmar-Thai border.
Chinese tourists with a border pass or other nationals, third party
tourists, with a visa may enter at Loije, Nam Kham, Muse, Kyukoke,
Kunlong, Mongla along the Myanmar-China border.
AIRPORT
TAX
Departure airport tax for international flights
is US $10 per person, payable in US Dollar or FECs (Foreign Exchanged
Currency Dollars).
CUSTOMS
Foreign currency above US $ 2000, jewelry,
electrical equipment and cameras must be declared at the airport
upon arrival. Valuable antiques and archeological items are not
allowed to be taken out.
DUTY FREE ALLOWANCE
Two bottles of liquor, two cartons
of cigarettes, 100 cigars, 1.5 lb of tobacco, one pint bottle of
perfume or eau de cologne.
CURRENCY
Myanmar currency is the KYAT made up of 100
pyas (although pyas are no longer used). Currency notes come in
the following denominations: K5, K10, K15, K20, K50, K100, K200,
K500, K1,000. Visitors are not allowed to bring in and take out
Kyats.
HEALTH
No vaccination certificate is required
unless coming from an infected area. SARS preventive measures are
undertaken at the International Airports in Yangon and Mandalay.
FOREIGN EXCHANGE
Visitors may bring in any amount
of foreign currency but it must be declared to the customs if it
exceeds US $ 2000. FECs, equivalent to US Dollars may be used. They
come in $20, $10, $5, and $1 denominations. FECs can be accepted
by hotels, airlines, travel agencies, some taxi, and some restaurants
and as payment of admission fees to museums and pagodas. At this
time credits cards are not accepted. Travelers are, however, advised
to bring US Dollars in cash. Travelers' Cheques are not accepted.

RATE
Rates quoted in this tariff are net in US
dollars. Tour price do not include airport departure taxes, excess
baggage charges, meals not listed, optional tours and/or any personal
purchase.
PAYMENT
Advance payment of 50% is required after confirmation
of the tour. Payment can be made by telegraphic transfer to Myanmar

CANCELLATION
Cancellation takes effect the day on which
the written notice is received. Cancellation fees are as follows:
30-15. days prior to arrival -- 30% of tour price, 14-8 days prior
to arrival -- 50% of tour price, and less than 7 days prior
to arrival -- 100% of tour price.
REFUND
After commencement of travel, no refund either
in full or part will be given.
LIABILITY
Snowland Travels and Tours, Limited shall
not be liable for any delay, loss or cancellation of airlines or
other transport companies, for any unforeseen circumstances such
as accident, personal illness, political unrest, natural catastrophe
which is beyond our control. We reserve the right to modify. The
